Énglish in Asia and Europe's Asia Competence Needs

The future of English depends on its development in Asia where a variety of local forms have emerged. Moreover, Asian Englishes are embedded in highly multilingual societies with large national languages like Mandarin, Hindi / Urdu or Malay.
This international conference, which is sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Freie Universität Berlin and others investigates English in Asia and asks if English is enough (for Europe) to deal with Asia and what else is needed to be successful in this region. Reciprocally, it asks what would be desirable for Asian nations to know of Europe.

Participants and speakers come from Pakista, India, Singapure, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Germany and other countries.

The conference takes place at the FUB from 9-12 May; conference fee € 80,00.
