Mergers & Acquisitions activity: In 2008, 446 GCC transactions with a total known value of 73 bil. USD have been announced in 2008. The number of M&A deals with GCC involvement in 2008 has increased by 31% which is contrary to the olver all trend worldwide (-10%). The total known value of GCC deals has decreased by 39%, which is almost in line with the general trend (World: -40%). National vs. Cross-border M&A: The majority of numbers and value of GCC transactions are cross-border deals (70% of number, 86% of value). Of these cross-border transactions, GCC outbound are much more important in terms of value which where 61 bil. USD in 2008. Most favorite regions for transactions outside GCC by value is Western Europe (58% of value). Industry: With respect to the number, the majority of deals has taken place in the sectors financials, industrials, and consumers. By value, the most important sectors have been real estate, financials, and energy & power. Top deals: Cross-border deals dominate the list of top deals in 2008. Only 4 out of 15 deals are either national or intra-GCC transactions.
