Second Alternative Fuels Workshop

MVW Lechtenberg &Partner in Germany is announcing its second Alternative Fuel Workshop

After the successful 1st alternative Fuel Workshop of MVW Lechtenberg & Partner with 30 Participants from 22 Countries, the second Workshop is planned for the 4th and 5th of May 2010. Responsible Managers of most of the international Cement groups such as Cemex, Cimpor, Holcim, Lafarge, Titan, Vicat and others have shown their great interest to participate again.

The use of Alternative Fuels in Clinker production is common practice in many Cement plants all over the world. Increasing fuel prices, environmental awareness and companies strategies for a sustainable Development forcing the need of education for responsible Team leaders in cement plants all over the world.

Sure- the basics of the cement manufacturing process are everywhere the same; but the legal frameworks and conditions are always different.
In developed countries with a high standard waste collection , -separation and -recycling it is much easier to get defined waste fractions which can be used as an alternative Fuel then in third world countries. The cement industry with its high energy demand and ideal enabling technology can play a significant role in countries waste management policies. Calculating a possible substitution rate of only 20% in the existing worldwide clinker production capacity of app. 2.5 Billion tons of Clinker, approximately 100.000.000 tons of waste could be environmental friendly used- each year! Therefore more and more knowledge for implementing alternative Fuel projects is required. The international cement organizations such as Cembureau, the Cement sustainability initiative (CSI) of the world business council for sustainability development (WBCSD) and others have developed many guide lining activities which are supporting their members.

During the past years, Dirk Lechtenberg was asked many times if there is a more practicable training possibility for the use of alternative Fuels, which was the reason to start the first Workshop on Alternative Fuel implementation by MVW Lechtenberg & Partner in Mülheim a.d. Ruhr, Germany.
In a two day workshop a practicable guideline for the Alternative Fuel Implementation will be worked out.

Key questions in this workshop are:

  • What influence do alternative fuels and raw materials have on the clinker production process?
  • On Refractories?
  • What legal and economical framework can the cement industry work within when using alternative fuels?
  • How to start up an Alternative Fuels Project from the scratch?
  • How to deal with local municipalities and stakeholders?
  • How to process waste into a fuel?
  • How to calculate an Alternative Fuel Project?

Using case-studies from cement plants from all over the world, MVW Lechtenberg`s Expert`s will present practicable guidelines, work instructions to define Framework conditions in the Alternative Fuel Development. With a limited numbers of only 25 attendees only from Cement Plants, these small workgroups ensure a practical training which will be held on the 4th and 5th of May 2010 at MVW Lechtenberg`s premises in Mülheim, Germany.
