First "Alternative Fuel Workshop" organised by MVW Lechtenberg in Turkey

The Turkish Cement industry is recognized as fast growing Industry for the past years. With the economical downturn, not the production capacity, but the production cost per ton of clinker is now the most important figure. With an installed capacity of app. 60 Mio tons of Clinker, the current domestic sales reached only 39.986.237 tons Cement in 2009. Even an increase in exports (mainly to Syria, Iraq and Middle East) from 6, 6 Mio tons in 2007 to 14 mio. tons in 2009 couldn’t solve the economical problems of the installed overcapacity. As the use of Alternative Fuels is one well known possibility to reduce the clinker production costs and fossil CO² emissions, many Plants have already started to use available Alternative Fuels. A run on wastes started last year- till know without significant success.
In total 38 Cement kilns have now the license to use Alternative Fuels such as refused derived fuels, hazardous wastes, biomass and others. The overall substitution rate of Alternative Fuels was recognized last year with only 1, 5 %- the highest substitution was recognized with app. 10% at Akcanca cement, B.Cekmece Plant near Istanbul. In Comparison- the Substitution rate in the German cement industry has reached 60% in overall; with some Plants achieving 80% of fossil fuels substitution. On the 21st and 22nd of September, MVW Lechtenberg will organize a “Alternative Fuel Workshop” in Ankara to further discuss in a round table with the related authorities and cement plants how to develop a joint strategy which will support the Turkish Society and Environment.

The Two Day workshop will include a packed program:
