Optical 3D Sensor for Coordinate Measuring Machines

In production engineering, 3D portal coordinate measuring machines with tactile sensors are commonly used. This technique provides accurate data but at the cost of long measuring times if complex components are to be scanned. With the help of the new optical sensor presented here, measuring times can be drastically reduced at comparable measurement uncertainties. Key concepts are triangulation with ten independently switchable crossed laser lines in combination with pattern recognition techniques using image analysis.
